Dog combs come in many different shapes and sizes and are usually categorized based on the type of coat that a breed has, as well as the common use of the comb.
For instance, a flea comb is a useful tool for getting stubborn fleas out of a dog’s coat, or simply for getting a firm grasp on the dog’s coat. Due to how tight the prongs are on a flea comb they are generally not recommended for dogs with curly thick coats.
A shedding comb on the other hand is designed for removing excess fur from a pet’s coat and usually comes in many different tooth sizes. A fine tooth shedding comb is designed for short haired animals with fine fur, while a large or medium tooth shedding comb is designed for thicker coats and multi-layered levels of fur.
There are also grooming combs which as the name denotes are used for grooming a pet so that they look their best or are prepared to show. A common use for a grooming comb is to fluff up areas of fur on dogs like Poodles or Pomeranians, or to straighten the hair of a show dog such as a Collie or an Afghan Hound.
