Deshedding Tools

Although owning a dog can be a lovely experience, dealing with the amount of fur that they leave behind is not such a pleasant by-product.  In order to properly maintain a dog’s coat and reduce the amount that they shed you need to have the proper de-shedding tools, which are usually dependent on the breed.

Some versatile de-shedding tools are flea combs, which are small wire combs that are very precise in their use.  They have small metal prongs and are effective in thoroughly cleaning any debris from a dog’s fur.  Due to how tight and hard the prongs are these are only proper for use on short haired dogs since they will hurt knotty longer coats.

Shedding blades are an effective way to tackle thick coats and are shaped in a loop with prongs that extend from the metal top that resembles a lead.  There are various sizes of shedding blades to fit each breed and size of dogs.

For dogs that have thick fur and an undercoat or simply several layers of fur a shedding rake is an effective way of getting down to the deeper layers and removing excess fur, as well as any debris from your pet.
